Ferry Arriving in the Rain

Fire Island Weather

On Fire Island, a rainy day can be as lovely as a sunny one.

In the summer, there are many gorgeous days to play outside, go sailing or relax at the beach. But rainy days are a time to read, cook, do a puzzle or take a nice long nap. Some days, the fog rolls in from the beach and blankets the landscape with a gentle cover. When it snows here, it creates a magical environment of deer prints and snow covered pines. No matter what the weather, Fire Island is one of the most beautiful places to experience it. Here’s your guide to the weather, tides, surf, sunrise/sunset, UV index and Marine Forecast.

If you’re going to be stuck anywhere in bad weather, Fire Island is the place to be, though we do worry about hurricanes and storm surges. Sandy caused enormous damage to the Island from which we are still recovering. It makes us treasure this place all the more and we all hope Mother Nature will be kind to us.

Surfers want to know when conditions are right, beachgoers can check the UV index for how much sunscreen to slather on or sailors can see the tide conditions and where the buoys are. These links will keep you in the loop.
