About Kismet

Kismet is the westernmost community on Fire Island just a shell’s throw from the Lighthouse. Residents enjoy its reputation as a town where anything goes. It’s a great choice for singles, group shares and families with kids.

Many houses are rented by groupers, who play on the beach by day and party into the night on their deck and at the bars. Singles share the town amicably with families and homeowners, many who were singles here.

Many houses have names like Bananas, The Edge, Margaritaville, or Life is Better at the Beach. The atmosphere is fun, relaxed, and live and let live.

Town Center

The town center is on the bay. There is a grocery store, two restaurants, a popular marina, basketball court, public tennis courts, playground, and a pizza shop on the dock.

At the two bay front restaurants, The Inn and Dive, where diners enjoy a nice lobster while watching the sunset. Later on, singles meet and keep the fun going.

Children run off steam at the nearby playground while lunch or dinner is being prepared.

Later on, you can have beer or three and dance the night away when Dive turns on the music or play pinball at the Inn.

Recreation

Recreation is what we do best on Fire Island, and Kismet knows how to do it right.

Tennis players can enjoy a game or have a private lesson at the Camelot tennis courts, just a few steps from the ocean.

Boating enthusiasts from all over the island and the south shore come to catch bluefish and snapper, dock at the Marina, and have a late night beer or three at the Inn.

Of course, there’s the ocean, where day trippers bring coolers, take a dunk in the ocean and catch a game of volleyball on the beach. Or at least watch one.

The Community

The many Year-Rounders who make the Kismet their home are intrepid souls, with a strong sense of community. The Kismet Community Association has an active membership committed to town affairs.

The volunteer Fire Department was built by Kismet residents who have funded their own lifeguard protection. On Friday nights, the residents sell flowers on the dock as a town fundraiser.

Staying Here

Rent a room at Margarita Villas, Camelot Court or The Boatel. Many short term and seasonal home rentals for families and groups are available.

Group shares and day trippers are welcome here and there is a good time to be had in Kismet. It’s a cooler kind of town, so bring yours and play with us!
