Walking east on the main road from Ocean Beach, you will pass through Corneille Estates and FI Summer Club. These Fire Island sister towns are private, each just 2 blocks long, nestled in the trees.
You can see the distinctive red tiled roof and watch tower of the magnificent landmark FI Summer Club building from the bay. It alerts visitors when they are in this matchbox community.
The clubhouse was originally the Coast Guard station at Blue Point before being moved here in the 1920’s. It is now used as the community clubhouse.
The Woodhull School, the island’s 100-year old first-rate elementary school is here, just over the border of Ocean Beach.
Many of the 60 or so children of the island’s year-round residents ride the school bus over the beach to get here. The school’s facilities include a sports field, basketball court and library.
Ferries, shopping, restaurants and services are found in neighboring Ocean Beach.
