You can tell you’re in Seaview as the streets are paved with a distinctive brickwork pattern. There are about 360 homes in this upscale town. The spacious marina is maintained by the Seaview Association and accommodates about 60 boats used seasonally by its residents.
They also manage the children’s playground and wading pool where kids gather for swimming lessons. There are six tennis courts, a ball field, community house, the Serber Memorial Park and doctor’s office.
You can find Dr. Jim at the office just east of the Ferry Dock/ Boat Basin at the corner of F Street and Central.
Ferries leave directly from Bay Shore.
The heart of Seaview is the Fire Island Synagogue. It acts as a community center holding religious and social events. These include classes, discussions, concerts, book openings, performances and Seaview Association meetings.
It recently celebrated its 65-year anniversary of holding services. The current building was designed by architect Abe Silverman in 1972 and opened on Beachwold (“B” street) and Central Walk in 1973.
Their website describes the Synagogue as “egalitarian services that blend tradition and innovation with prayer, learning, and joyful music that is open and accessible across denominations,” …with an “informal island atmosphere, where kippah and tallit often accompany shorts and sandals, is welcoming.”
