Getting to Fire Island

You can not drive your car onto the residential part of the island.

Of course, the car-free environment is a big part of its charm. You can park at one of 3 ferry terminals and take a delightful ferry ride across the Great South Bay. It’s about a half-hour ride in the fresh, salty air. Ferries leave from Bay Shore, Sayville and Patchogue depending on the town you are going to. You can get to the 3 ferry docks by car, the Long Island Railroad, and jitney minivan service.
